What to see? Some of my favourites…
- Gamla stan – The Old Town. The medieval centre of Stockholm with narrow cobble stoned streets and cosy squares.
- The Vasa Museum – the war ship that sunk in 1628 and resurfaced 333 years later. A unique experience!
- Stockholm City Hall – let me show you where the Nobel Prize banquet takes place each year. A building of architectural excellence, full of history, art and beauty.
- The Royal Palace in Stockholm and/or Drottningholm Palace and Park (UNESCO World Heritage site)
- The Viking World: Historical Museum in Stockholm with its viking exhibition and Birka the Viking Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
- Skokloster Palace – one of the best preserved baroque palaces in Europe. Perfect for a day out of Stockholm. Perhaps combined with a visit to…
- Sigtuna – the oldest town in Sweden. Tiny, picturesque, lovely Swedish Fika (coffee and pastry) and small town shopping. Throw in medieval church ruins and plenty of Viking period rune stones – a great excursion.
”See you in Stockholm! Here I am on a winter’s day, waiting for guests at the Grand Hotel. Behind me is the Royal Palace of Stockholm – office of King Carl XIV Gustaf of Sweden.”
